Steven Ray Marshall

Steven Ray Marshall, 81, of Madisonville, KY passed away on Friday, August 16, 2024 at Lucy King Smith Care Center in Henderson, KY.

He was born on June 1, 1943 in Lancaster, WI to the late Russel W. and Ada Marshall.

Steven was of the Christian faith.

He graduated from Missouri School of Mines in Rolla, MO in 1966. Steven was a retired mining engineer, and was one of the most respected longwall experts in the world. He had worked at Bethlehem Steel in 1986 and moved to Western Kentucky later that year.  Steven worked locally with Smith Coal in Providence, KY, Pyro Mines, and Peabody mines, and had worked with various mines globally including BHP Billiton in Australia and Cliff Natural Resources in the United States.

He was a private pilot and member of the Aircraft Owners and Pilots Association.  Steven loved riding his Harley Davidson with the club and enjoyed refinishing furniture.

In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his brother, Thomas Jan Marshall.

Steven is survived by his wife, Janie Marshall of Madisonville, KY; two daughters, Elizabeth Marshall Floyd and her husband, Jon, of Henderson, KY and Pamela Marshall McVeigh and her husband, Bryan, of Malvern, PA; one son, Christopher Marshall and his wife, Laixi Tan, of Foley, AL; two sisters, Susan Kay Marshall– Abner and her husband, Ray, of Vienna, IL and  Mary Ann Marshall-Presson and her husband, Randal, of Carrollton, TX; two stepchildren, Melissa Durham and her husband, Dean, of Hanson, KY and Jason Wood and his wife, Karin, of Cadiz, KY; four grandchildren; three great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

Memorial services will be held at 2:00PM on Wednesday, August 21, 2024 at Reid-Walters Funeral Home in Earlington, KY with Rev. Dean Durham officiating and Christopher Marshall assisting.

A visitation will be held on Wednesday, August 21, 2024 from 1:00PM until service time at 2:00PM at the funeral home.

Memorial contributions may be made to St. Anthony’s Hospice and Donate Life KY.  Contribution envelopes will be made available at the funeral home.
