Joseph Lee Gill, 78, of Madisonville, Ky passed away on Wednesday, January 31, 2024 at Baptist Health Deaconess in Madisonville.
He was born in Madisonville, KY on November 16, 1945 to the late Kenneth Marlow and Hilda Baird Kirkwood Gill.
He was a member of Earlington First Baptist Church in Earlington, KY. Joseph was a Veteran of the United States Army where he worked in security at the Panama Canal, he had retired from Providence Mine # 1 where he had worked as a coal miner and where he was the president of the UMWA local union at that mine. He had been Supervisor II at the Office of Mine Safety in Madisonville, KY, was a retired State Mine Inspector, and the head of mine safety for many years. Joseph loved his family and playing golf.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Kenneth Gill.
Joseph is survived by his wife, Lee Gill of Madisonville, KY; two children, Joseph Scott Gill of Princeton, KY and Michelle Lea Gill Patterson and her husband, Clint, of Island, KY; one sister, Marthann Gill of Nortonville, KY; sister in law, Dianne Gill of Sebree, KY; five grandchildren, Jade Gill and her fiancée Everick Keown, Sydney Gill, Whitley Patterson, Logan Patterson, and Natalie Patterson; one great grandchild, Jax Singleton; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, February 3, 2024 at 1:00 PM at Earlington First Baptist Church in Earlington, KY with Bro. Rob Ison and Rev. Bobby Sellers officiating and burial with military rites performed graveside by the 101st Airborne Division Ft. Campbell and the Hopkins County Honor Guard to follow at Oakwood Cemetery in Earlington, KY.
Visitation will be held on Saturday, February 3, 2024 from 10:00 AM until service time at 1:00 PM at Earlington First Baptist Church in Earlington, KY
