Barbara Irena Waszak Dembkowski 77, of Madisonville KY passed away on May 23,2024 at Madisonville Health and Rehab in Madisonville. She was born in Warsaw, Poland on March 7,1947 to the (late) Stanislaw Waszak and Irena Karbowski.
She was a member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church.
She had worked as a high school teacher in Poland. She studied linguistics at the University of Warsaw, where she met and subsequently married Harry E. Dembkowski, a visiting American student who was working on his doctoral dissertation in Polish history for the University of Chicago. In 1973 she immigrated to the United States proud of her heritage, she maintained her Polish citizenship for the following 51 years. After living in Chicago, Northwestern PA, New York City and Bristol VA, in 1991 she and her family moved to Madisonville, where she held several positions including Home Health and was a volunteer at the St. Vincent DePaul thrift shop. But her greatest love were crafts and Polish folk art, that included knitting, quilting, needlework, Christmas ornaments and more.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by Sister; Andrzej Wazak, Stepmother; Marianna Haladyj-Waszak.
She is survived by her husband, and sons; Mark (Elizabeth) Dembkowski, of Earlington KY; Robert Dembkowski of Madisonville KY granddaughter; Amber Dawne Dembkowski, Earlington, Sisters in law; Grace (Joseph) Fugiel, Mount Prospect IL, Doris (Frank) LaCour, Lodi WI, Susan (Stephen) Bushnell of Verona WI, Zofia (Andrzej) Waszak of Warsaw; several nieces and nephews, cousins in U.S and Poland.
Memorial Mass will be Friday, May 31,2024 at 11:00 AM at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Earlington KY with Father David Kennedy officiating and burial to follow at Mt. Calvary Cemetery in Earlington KY.
Visitation will be on Friday, May 31,2024 from 10:00 AM until 11:00 AM the church.
Reid-Walters Funeral Home in Earlington KY is in charge of the arrangements.
