Bessie Lou (Scott) Green

Bessie Lou Scott Green, 89, of Salem, KY, had been raised in Hopkins County, KY, and formerly of Mortons Gap, KY and Cadiz, KY, passed away on July 16, 2017 at Livingston County Hospital in Salem, KY. She was born in Hopkins County, KY on November 29, 1927 to the late Clarence G. and Dovie B. Scott. 

She was a member of Mexico Baptist Church in Marion, KY; and was a Gideon Auxiliary member

She had worked as a grocery store clerk and a nurse’s aide.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by one infant child, Phyllis Gayle Green; one brother, Monroe Scott and six sisters: Minnie Bell Black, Mary Rose Gatlin, Dorothy Tanner, Helen Furgerson, Martha Scott, Estelle Rickard; and granddaughter, Joy Ann Green.

She is survived by her husband of 71 years, 8 months, and 2 days, James Green of Salem, KY; two daughters: Shernell Lowry and her husband, Panuel of Rockvale, TN and Evelyn Jones and her husband, Gregory of Salem, KY; one son, Scott Green and his wife, Donna of Earlington, KY; five grandchildren James R. Lowry; Kevin N. Lowry; Jessica Jones, Nathaniel Jones, and Sarah Jones;  three step-grandchildren: Stacey Howard, Anthony McPherson, and Cindy Clark; seven great grandchildren, six step great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday, July 19, 2017 at 2:00pm at Mortons Gap Second Baptist Church 132 Hopkinsville Road, Mortons Gap, KY.  Bro. Tim Burdon will be officiating, with Bro. Wilbur Powell and Bro. Dale Ford assisting, and burial to follow at Old Salem Cemetery in Mortons Gap, KY.

Visitation will be on Tuesday, July 18, 2017 from 5:00pm until 8:00pm at Reid-Walters Funeral Home in Earlington, KY and from 12:00 pm until service time on Wednesday at the Mortons Gap Second Baptist Church.

Pallbearers will be: David Walterman, Kevin Lowry, Jimmy Kelly, James Lowry, Nathaniel Jones, and Frank Hancock.
