Gladys Wyatt Bone

January 21, 1920 ~ March 14, 2017 (age 97) 97 Years Old


Gladys Wyatt Bone , 97,  of Madisonville, KY, formerly of Earlington and known as "Happy" to her friends, passed away Tuesday, March 14, 2017 at Oak Ridge Retirement Center in Madisonville. She was born in Dawson Springs, KY on January 21, 1920 to the late Melvin and Ella Ligon Inglis.

She had resided in Earlington, KY over twenty-seven years with husband, John Wyatt in a home built by her father.

In her younger years, she worked at Dawson Daylight Coal Company.  She graduated from Bowling Green Business College.

 In Earlington, Happy worked at the Kentucky Utilities meter Department and she was active in the community.  She was PTA President, Cub Scout Den Mother, Earlington BPW officer, Sunday School teacher and sang in the choir at the First United Methodist Church where she was a member. Gladys always looked forward to her trips to the Daytona Beach area in Florida.

In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her first husband, John Cole Wyatt, Jr. "John Boy"; her second husband, Col. George A. Bone; her sisters, Ruth Sisk, Alyne Jackson; and one brother, Aubrey Inglis.

She is survived by her two sons: Mel (Janet) Wyatt of Earlington, KY and Mike Wyatt (Elon Jones) of Madisonville, KY; step-daughter, Ella (Romir) Chatterjee of Bend, OR; her grandchildren: John Michael (Heather) Wyatt of Signal Mt., TN, Jill (David) Dilday of Fairview, TN., Cole Wyatt of Nashville, TN, Leah Chatterjee and Ravi Chatterjee of Bend, OR; great grandchildren: Donavan Dilday and Ruby Wyatt; special nieces: Toni Curtis, Janet Bell, and Karolyn Hayden; and great niece Ella Hayden.

The Family would like to thank the staff at Oak Ridge and her sitters Nelda, Rho and Jennifer.

Graveside services will be held at 1:00 pm., Saturday, April 15th at Oakwood Cemetery in Earlington.
